Opening Ceremony
The Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 kicked off with a vibrant Opening Ceremony, graced by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee Chairman Wong Hon Wai.
The event saw the participation of 61 teams from 12 countries, comprising about 1,600 rowers from China, Hong Kong SAR, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia, among others. Organised by the state government with collaboration of the Consulate-General Office of China in Penang, and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), as main partners and sponsors, the competition also celebrates 50 years of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations. The ceremony featured lively cultural performances, and inspiring speeches. Chief Minister Chow highlighted the regatta’s role in promoting Penang’s heritage and fostering international connections. Also present were Consul-General of China in Penang, Zhou Youbin, several state executive councillors, and state assemblymen.

Closing Ceremony
The Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta 2024 concluded with a grand Closing Ceremony, honored by the presence of Penang Governor TYT Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak. The ceremony celebrated the success of the event with heartfelt speeches, the presentation of awards to the winners, and spectacular performances. Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi congratulated all 61 dragon boat teams from 12 countries, especially Penang’s Pacific West Dragon Boat Club for winning the TYT Cup and the organising committee members of the PIDBF and PETACE office as well as sponsors for making the event a great success.
