On 22nd of November 2024, Friday, at 12:15 AM, the inaugural HK Express flight touched down at Penang International Airport, carrying over 100 dragon boat team members who will compete in the 2024 Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta.
Hong Kong Express was welcomed by a water cannon salute, the new direct flight from Hong Kong to Penang bridges the gap between these vibrant destinations.
The arrival was warmly welcomed by YB Wong Hon Wai, Chairman of the Penang Tourism & Creative Economy Committee, and Mr. Daniel Chan Zhuo Xi, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta, among other distinguished guests.
HK Express marks the third direct flight route between Penang and Hong Kong, joining Cathay Pacific and AirAsia. HK Express CEO Ms. Jeanette Mao also arrived on the inaugural flight to witness this significant milestone.
Also present to welcome these distinguished guests were YB Joseph Ng Soon Siang, PGT Director; YB Chee Yeeh Keen, Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly for Bagan Jermal; YB Teh Lai Heng, Member of the Penang State Legislative Assembly for Komtar; and Mr. Ooi Chok Yan, CEO of Penang Global Tourism, alongside Ms. Zulaida, Deputy Director of the Northern Region for Tourism Malaysia.
To celebrate the occasion, passengers of the first flight were greeted with the symbolic Water Cannon Salute, a lively traditional Malay Kompang performance, and a mesmerizing lion dance, showcasing the vibrant multicultural spirit of Penang!
